Responsibility of Editors

  • Academics, researchers and professionals interested in publishing are given an opportunity by the editor/editors of Slovenské divadlo to present their original studies, articles, researches, essays and other scholarly texts related to the focus of the journal, which have not yet been published in any form, or published elsewhere in a different form.
  • The editorial office of Slovenské divadlo approves the final form and content of the journal in cooperation with the advisory board. Based on the overall quality of submitted articles and on the review reports of reviewers, the editorial office will select the contributions to be published in the journal. The inclusion of the manuscripts sent to each section is entirely the responsibility of editor/editors. They may accept the suggestions and recommendations of reviewers and members of the advisory board of the journal for the inclusion of manuscripts in individual columns.
  • The texts to be published in Slovenské divadlo are selected objectively based on the quality of their content and form, on the originality of new knowledge and on an overall input into the scientific community in the given scientific field. The editorial office does not take into account the author’s national or foreign scientific affiliation and/or institutional affiliation and it strictly dismisses any discrimination in relation to gender, ethnic origin, geographic background, political beliefs or religion.
  • The editors/editor decide(s) on the manuscripts without undue delay. Before approaching the reviewers, editors will check all submitted manuscripts to ascertain whether they are in line with the scope of each journal section and whether they meet professional standards. If the editors find that a manuscript does not meet these requirements, its publication will be rejected and the manuscript will be referred back to the author. Manuscripts containing serious language and stylistic deficiencies will also be desk-rejected. If a manuscript passes the initial scrutiny of editors, the standard review process is launched.
  • The editors/editor, in collaboration with the advisory board, propose(s) reviewers of individual manuscripts so as to ensure that their scientific content and input are assessed with due expertise, in a transparent manner and independently of their content, form and nature.
  • The editor/editors is/are very particular about keeping the review process of submitted manuscripts bilaterally anonymous and they shall refrain from any action leading to detecting the identity of authors and reviewers.
  • The editor/editors shall take measures to prevent a potential conflict of interest on the part of authors, reviewers or members of the advisory board. For instance, editors shall not approach reviewers who might be in a potential conflict of interest with respect to the manuscript. Editors shall also avoid making decisions about manuscripts with respect to which they may themselves be involved in a potential conflict of interest.
  • In the event a potential conflict of interest is unavoidable, editors shall act so as to prevent any damage that may result from such a conflict.
  • In the event of a potential conflict of interest (for instance, in the case of conscientious objection – ideological, ethical or other prejudice, or in the event of a possible disruption of impartiality) on the part of the author, of the reviewer or of a member of the advisory board (or if they alert the editorial office in writing of a similar objection), the editor-in-chief shall assess the situation and take the necessary measures, e.g., appoint a new reviewer.
  • In the event of a reasonable suspicion of violation of ethical principles, editors retain the right to further review the text and they may suspend or cancel the planned publication. If such deficiencies directly result from editorial processes or from an improper handling of the information provided, the responsibility lies with editors. Should that be the case, editors shall rectify the situation in an appropriate manner (e.g., by publishing corrections, by apologising to the authors and by a duly modified electronic version of the journal in the form of a free online PDF).
  • The editor/editors of Slovenské divadlo is/are very particular about the need to avoid such situations and upon acceptance of the final manuscript versions, an in-depth check of the compliance with professional practices of creating scientific texts and with ethical principles associated with citing and paraphrasing the works of other authors shall be carried out.
  • The editor/editors shall refrain from any kind of modification or amendment of the content of the reviewers’ evaluation reports and forward to the authors parts of the reviewers’ reports in full and free from modifications.
  • The editor/editors shall guarantee to refrain from any action that could inappropriately affect the journal’s ranking by artificially increasing the journal metrics.
